The role of European judges in law-making
Publié le mercredi 11 juin 2014
On 13 and 14 June 2014, the University of Luxembourg in collaboration with the Society of European Contract Law (SECOLA), with the support of the National Research Fund of Luxembourg (FNR), will hold a conference that takes a unique look at the law-making process and debates the role of, “The European Court of Justice as a ‘creator’ of European Contract Law.” Prof. Elise Poillot, Professor of Civil Law and director of the University of Luxembourg’s working group on European Private Law (Europrilex), explains, “Until now academics and scholars have discussed European contract law from a legislative perspective. Our conference will take a fresh view and ask, for the first time, do judges from the European Court of Justice also have a role in the law-making process in the field of contract law.” Introductions will be given by Prof. Pascal Ancel on behalf of Prof. Stefan Braum, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance of the University of Luxembourg and Prof. Stefan Grundmann of the European University Institute and the Humboldt University in Berlin, as well as Prof. Elise Poillot. The conference will take the form of presentations and panel discussions, designed to present differing points of view and provoke debate. It is hoped that students, researchers and practitioners of law alike will find the event both provoking and informative. - - - The working language of the conference is English, however questions and opinions may also presented in French and German. |
